STEPS PROGRAM

A comprehensive and tangible "STEPS" (an acronym for "Students Taking Exploratory Paths to Success") program is based on leading research on effective advising for undecided students. Three stages of exploration are presented on a continuum; self-exploration, major exploration and career exploration. Using a developmental academic advising approach, advisors assess the student's point on the major selection continuum and recommend specific "steps" to move them forward through the major/career selection. Students are expected to be active participants in their own major selection process and complete the specific steps between advising sessions.
